Services and prayer during Lent

Shrove Tuesday, 13th February, 5pm - 7pm

PANCAKE PARTY in church

Come and have a pancake - lemon and sugar, Nutella, golden syrup, what's your favourite?  Free for everyone, although donations are invited, and everyone is very welcome.

Ash Wednesday, 14th February

3pm:  Service of Holy Communion

with the Imposition of Ashes

We mark Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, with a service of Holy Communion, including the Imposition of

Ashes, where the priest marks the foreheads of those present with crosses of ash as a symbol of faith and penitence.

Monday evenings in Lent: Silent Prayer

Every Monday evening during Lent, starting on 19th February at 6pm, we will meet in the Vicarage, 24 Waltham Drive HA8 5PQ for half an hour of silent prayer, and then finish by saying the evening service of Compline together.

Silent prayer offers us an opportunity to hear what God may be saying to us. Compline is traditionally the last service of the day, and can be a peaceful and calming antidote to a busy life.  It is a very short service, with no homily, and you can expect to be leaving by about 6:50pm.

Lent Course: Strength made Perfect

Disability and the Church

St Paul’s revelation in 2 Corinthians 12 is that God’s strength is made perfect in human weakness.  This course explores what this might mean for today’s church.

In five sessions we will explore:

  1. What disability is and how it affects people today
  2. What the Old Testament says about disability, and how the "Image of God" is reflected in our human embodiment
  3. What Jesus says about disability and the Kingdom of God
  4. How the early church understood disability through the teachings of St Paul
  5. What the contemporary church is saying to disabled people, and how we might establish a vision for the future as a church where all can belong on equal terms.

We'll meet on Wednesdays in Lent, opening with a light lunch at 1pm, and go on to spend about an hour in study and reflection, finishing with a service of Holy Communion at 3pm.  We’ll start on the Wednesday after Ash Wednesday, and we don’t meet in Holy Week, so the ASQ dates will be 21st and 28th February, and 6th, 13th and 20th March.

If Wednesday lunchtime isn’t convenient for you, the other churches in Kingsbury and Queensbury Churches Together are following the same material both in person and online, although they will meet six times, taking two weeks to cover the final session, and of course you're very welcome to whichever group is most convenient for you.  Their times are:

Saturdays 17th and 24th February, and 2nd, 9th, 16th and  23rd March                                                                                10am Kingsbury Baptist Church (NW9 8QG, in person and online) followed by light lunch

Tuesdays 20th and 27th February, and 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th March

11am Holy Innocents Church, NW9 0AY, in person

7.30pm Saints Sebastian and Pancras Presbytery, NW9 0NG, in person

7.30pm online via Zoom – please contact the Rev'd Jo Phillips pastor@kingsburybc.uk for link

Wednesdays 21st and 28th February, and 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th March

You are very welcome to any of these events, and we hope to see you.

You don’t have to come to everything, but if something sounds appealing, why not try it out and see if it’s right for you.

Our vicar Kate would be very happy to answer any questions you may have, so please don’t hesitate to give her a call on 020 8952 4536 or send her an email.
